Sunflower is an annual plant of the Asteraceae family. Of course, the most common product obtained from sunflower seeds is the well-known sunflower oil. This is the most common type of vegetable oil used in Russia and Ukraine. The same countries are leaders in the manufacture of this product all over the world. Sunflower oil is widely used in the field of cooking, soap making and for the manufacture of various paints and ointments.
Sunflower seeds are used for the production of sunflower oil and margarine. Sunflower seed processing wastes are cake and meal used as high-protein feed additives in animal farming. Sunflower seeds contain minerals, phospholipids, fatty acids, vitamin PP, vitamin E and have a high nutritional and biological value. The chemical composition of sunflower seeds is shown below.
